Open a can and imagine yourself in the heart of the Waipoua forest. Giant ferns rustle, mist clings to the branches, and before you stands Tāne Mahuta, the sacred giant, guardian of the forests and hop fields.
We wanted to pay homage to it in our own way: with an oversized Double NEIPA, worthy of this living monument and the New Zealand hops that we cherish above all else. In the glass, it's an opaque golden cloud, an almost mystical haze, the result of a generous amount of oats thrown in without restraint.
Massive texture, velvety body, and a roundness that sets the stage for an explosion of aromas. Because here, we didn't mess around: Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Wai-iti, in an XXL double dry hop, at 20g/L.
On the nose: a true aromatic karanga (the Maori call) that grabs you right away. The New Zealand hops express themselves with rare finesse, between fresh citrus and elegant exotic notes, like an invitation to enter the sacred forest. In the mouth: it's a hopped initiation rite.
Silky sweetness, then a tropical explosion that envelops you like the canopy: lime, juicy peach, delicate lychee, and a floral touch that adds depth. The slight bitterness at the end balances the whole, like a caress of the wind at the top of a New Zealand mountain.
Tane Mahuta is our brewing journey to the land of the kiwis: a double IPA that is both wild and refined, as monumental as the tree from which it takes its name. A beer designed for enthusiasts, the curious, and all those who dream of swallowing a little New Zealand in generous sips.
Brewer's advice: open it with your friends, let yourself be guided by the spirit of the forest, and remember that here, hops speak as loudly as the All Blacks.
